I don’t buy near as much makeup as I used to, and as a stay at home mom, I don’t even wear it every day, so I don’t keep huge piles of cosmetics around. But I feel like I never remember when I bought my last, say, tube of mascara, or how long I’ve had that particular lipstick or whatever. I may still be getting use out of a product that’s been in my drawer for a while—but how old is it really? When, exactly did I open it? Does it smell weird now? Maybe…but I can’t always tell because sometimes new makeup smells weird to me. With cosmetics, I feel like it is important to ditch the old stuff (especially anything that goes by my eyes) before it gets past its prime and starts turning funky or something.
Organizing
Organizing: A Treasure Bowl
As the mother of a four year old boy, I am—like many others—constantly dealing with clutter, toys and little found bits and pieces lying around the house. Leaves, rocks, shells, acorns and other natural finds are brought in from outings and walks and deposited here and there in the house. Many people would probably throw them out at the end of the day, but I am a sentimental person, and I don’t want to just throw all of his ‘finds’ out.
Organizing: The Closet (Summer)
Ok, I’m secretly curious about how other people organize their closets, because maybe I could use their ideas! I probably have the tiniest little closet ever (all 45 inches wide are mine though!) I have to reorganize it seasonally so I can reach the right things. Here’s how its looking right now.
Organizing: The Sewing Box
It was time to give some attention to a very messy sewing materials repository. I had looked at getting a real sewing box, but I’m cheap, so I’ve never bothered.
Organizing: Jewelry
How do you organize jewelry, in particular, a tangle of necklaces? For several years now I have simply been hanging my necklaces on a utilitarian wall hook that was actually meant for brooms and mops. It might not be very pretty, but it works, and I actually like the simple look of the hook.
