Organizing for Kids

With cooler days there are lots more craft projects, coloring books and little games around our house. My son loves to cut, paste and tape things together. We have many, many supplies to keep him going. He also seems to have dozens of little games with small pieces and parts that can get everywhere. It’s a wonder I can keep any of it put away, but I do try to keep things organized. We try to have a place for everything. Eventually, things do get put back into their place.

Homemade Stamps

I’ve seen some great online tutorials (like this and this), for making stamps out of kid’s craft foam and wanted to try it out. Of course it’s not “real” printmaking, but it gives a sort of instant gratification because it’s so easy to do this. Here’s my little experiment — although I can’t say I really made anything to show for it, the process was fun and I’m planning to do more.

Bug Jar

Bug Jar

It may officially be fall, but my son is still into catching bugs (probably more so because they keep trying to sneak into our house). Unfortunately, his bug box broke and it wasn’t really holding his little captives anymore. He was going to trap some in a dark box, so I went looking for a more humane, yet temporary solution by using a Mason jar. Now he really likes his little bug jar.
