Agate & Brass Necklace

T-Finished

I spotted some pretty, chunky pink agate stone beads in Joann Crafts over the weekend and HAD to figure out what I could use them for. Paired with thick brass chain, I put together a simple but bold necklace that I’m hoping will work for summer and beyond.

If you want to try a similar style look for these materials:

Large, chunky stone beads (similar)
Thick ‘antique’ brass chain (similar )
Matching hooks/closures/spacer & crimp beads, etc.
Flexible bead wire
Beading pliers/cutters

To make this simple necklace, I strung the large stone beads on a strong but FLEXIBLE nylon coated steel wire and made loops at each end (around a large ring), closing them with a crimper bead. A brass colored spacer bead “finishes” the end of the row of colored stones.

Then I just decided the length of chain I wanted to use and secured it to the large rings. To avoid having to make two openings in that huge double chain, I opted to make my closure at the side of the necklace. A toggle closure looks a bit more special than the usual lobster clasp.

The finished necklace measures about 20.5″, or 21″ with the closure.

Forgive my too close self portrait from an awkward angle!

I’m really happy with the earthy but polished look of this.
